INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY OF MODERN ART

STATUTE

 

      Art. 1. – An association  called the << International  Academy  of  Modern Art >> ( A.I.A.M.) it exists in Rome, Italy.

 Art. 2. –This association has the objective to promote Art, and to diffuse it among the young people. For this purpose the A.I.A.M.  may institute courses of education and specialization,  divulge  scientific publications containing writings and reproductions of members’ and sympathizers’ works, prepare exhibits,  advertise competitions and award prizes. Such activity  will be  governed by regulations. The implementation of the present statute  requires that the document must be drafted and approved for the first time by the organizing committee, then it must be drafted and approved by the Presidency’s Council, and then submitted for approval to the members’ assembly.
     In no case will it be permitted  to practice within the Academy, any political or commercial activities.

Art. 3. –The International Academy  of  Modern Art, is constituted of two classes. At each class are ascribed seventy  national members and seventy foreign members, the members of merit in limited number as per Art.23 and the correspondent members in unlimited number.
     The first class  is divided into three categories: 1st ) Poetry with fifteen members;
     2nd ) Music with twenty members; 3rd ) Theatre with thirty-five members.
    The second class is divided  into three categories: 1st) Architecture with ten  members; 2nd ) Painting with forty members; 3rd ) Sculpture with twenty members.
    The above division is valid for the national members as well as for the foreign members. On the suggestion of the president of one category, subjected to approval by the Presidency’s Council, the categories can be divided into sections.
     In keeping with the resolution of November 4th, 1978, the categories of the  previously indicated members, have been subdivided, into the following sections:

FIRST CLASS

     The poetry category   is divided into six sections: lyric, literature, essays, criticism, journalism, publishing.
       The music category  is divided into three sections: composition, execution, teaching.
       The theatre category ( theatre, cinema, television ) is divided into seven  sections: composition, interpretation, production, direction, scenario, singing, dance.

SECOND CLASS

     The painting category is divided into four  sections: painting, graphics, ornament, antique.
      The sculpture category is divided into six sections: sculpture, fusion, engraving, embossing, chiselling, ceramics.
      The architecture category is divided into five sections: architecture, ornament, town planning, interior design, stage designing.   

Art. 4. – The national   and   foreign   members   have  the  right   to   the  title  of << Academician >>. Their names will be entered in the register of the << Academic Senate>>.  The members of merit and the correspondent members will be entered in the belonging category, in a provided register.

 Art.5. – The Academic Senate is made of all the active members, nationals and foreigners and of the honorary. members.
     There has been instituted a << Register of Gold >>  to be inserted in the second page of the Academic Register, where  can be entered the Artists, who have reached  such an international level of fame, that they can be considered already consecrated to the History of Art. These will be registered as extras.
     There has also been institute a << Medals of Gold Collection >> to be inserted in the first page of the Academic Register, where the members  already  listed in the Register of Gold, who are dead, have the right to be registered(Del. Cons. Pres. of 28-01-1978 ).

 Art. 6. – People who are  highly qualified and meritorious , at the suggestion of  at least three members of the Academic Senate and  Presidency’s Council, can be nominated as  honorary members of the Academy. The rights of the active members, and the choice of class and category will be given to them, where they will be inserted as extras. The Academy in primary session  will  decide by a majority on the enrolment of a candidate as honorary member.

      Art. 7. – The Presidency’s Council is constituted of one president, one vice-president, one managing vice-president  of the national division, one managing vice-president of  international division,  one secretary general, one treasurer with functions of administrator and nine advisers. By  presidential decision, among  the advisers, can be chosen and nominated, one vice-secretary general, one president’s secretary, one president’s vice-secretary, one press office manager, and one public relation office manager. The Presidency’s Council it remains in office five years
 ( Del. Con. Pres. of 18-12-76 ).
     The president , the vice-president and the administrator are elected by the members’ assembly. The presidents of the classes  have precedence over  all the other members, for the nomination of the president and vice-president of the Academy.
     The secretary general and the assistant secretary are nominated by the president, following consultation with the vice-president and administrator, and are chosen among the national members. The delegates are nominated by presidential decision. The election of the Presidency’s Council will take place during the last assembly of the session.
     The immediate re-election of the  president and  vice-president, in the same functions,  can  take place only once.

Art. 8. – The members of the Presidency’s Council are assigned an attendance fee. Its amount will be fixed every year during  the approval of the budget, should an endowment fund be constituted ( so modified with Del.Cons.Pres.n.6 of 15-02-1979 ).

Art. 9. – The  president represents the Academy and  signs the correspondence, with the exception of the correspondence sent to the administrator or the secretary general. He convenes and presides over the assemblies  of the Academy and council.
      If the president  is absent, he will be substituted by the vice-president, and if the latter is unavailable, he will be represented by the oldest of the national members who is present.
     In the council resolutions, in  case of an even score, the vote of the president prevails. 

 Art. 10. – The president and the vice-president of the Academy are the  presidents of the classes to which they belong. Each of them convene and preside over their own class .If they are absent, they will be replaced by the oldest of each class, among the national members who are present.

 Art. 11. – The Academy holds annually a session of nine months, that starts in October and ends in June of the following year. During this period, each class holds every month an ordinary session, presided by the president of the class or by the secretary. If they are absent, they will be substituted  by the oldest member.
     The president  and the secretary of each class are elected by a majority, of the members of the class to which they belong, and remain in office for four years.

Art. 12. – A plenary assembly  is called by the president once a year. It is composed of  the Presidency’s Council, the academic senate, the members of merit and the correspondent members; these can intervener in the discussions that  take place during the assemblies, without having any voting right. However  they can formulate questions to be submitted to the scrutiny of the primary assembly. 

Art. 13. –The primary assembly  is composed of the Presidency’s Council and the academic senate.

Art. 14. – The academic senate  is composed of the active members, who are nominated for life, and the honorary members.

Art. 15. –The budget and the final balance are prepared and discussed by the Presidency’s Council and later  approved by  the assembly of the active members, convening all the classes in an ordinary session that will be carried out at the end of the session.

Art. 16. –The president and the vice-president can convene extraordinary meetings of the class presidents and assemblies, of one or more classes, or convening also all the classes. The assemblies are public, but at president’s discretion, the public may be excluded.

 Art. 17. –Within the ninetieth day preceding the closing of the annual session, the president  will communicate the vacant positions of the active members to the class presidents, who without delay, after knowing the propositions of the members of each class, will communicate the names of the selected candidates. The Presidency’s Council, having evaluated the scientific, academic qualifications and  merits of the candidates, who in any case  can not exceed a tenth of the number of  members; i.e. seven national members and seven foreign members for each class,  will submit the candidacies to the vote of the national members by mail. Each member shall express the vote in writing, in a secret way, and  send it to the Presidency of the Academy, who will take care of the counting. Those who obtain the majority of the votes  will be elected. The Presidency will publish a press release.

     Art. 18. – The president, vice-president and  administrator are elected by the member assembly in a single voting with three different voting papers. Those who  obtain the majority of the votes will be elected, except as stated in  Art.7.
     The presidents and the class secretaries  will be elected  by the members of each class in separate sessions.

Art. 19. – The election of the national and foreign members, honorary members, president and vice-president of the Academy, is submitted to the approval of the primary assembly.

Art. 20. –The president has the power to ask possible authorizations necessary to implement the contents of the present statute as in Art.2, to constitute examining boards,  nominate experts and class directors or of category only, as well as accepting endowments and donations to set up art schools, foundations and to award prizes.
     Furthermore the president has the power to ask for the higher support of the President of the Republic, the Council of  Ministers and the Holy Father, if the Academy reaches positions of appreciable prestige. The president  has also the power  to lodge a request and relevant documentation to the Minister of Education in order to obtain the recognition of the Italian Republic.

Art. 21. –The president has the power to nominate people who, for their morals, business and aptitudes can  be admitted to participate in the Presidency’s Council, with all the benefits and privileges of the charter members. The nomination   will be carried out with a resolution of the Presidency’s Council and with the unanimous opinion of the members of the council itself present, on condition that the Council is represented by at least five members, including the president ( Del. Cons. Pres. of  27-03-76 )

 Art. 22. – The charter members, who have terminated their functions, following the election of the Presidency’s Council,  will be considered meritorious and registered as extras in the Class chosen by them. The registration it is carried out ope  legis and it is not subjected to any approval.

Art. 23. –The meritorious members are artists and peoples of culture, gifted with marked qualities who ask to join the Academy with the  spirit of emulation and the desire to acknowledge the ethical values of the << Greats >> who have preceded them. By presidential decree, they are registered as members, in a number that it is limited to a third of the number of the correspondent members. The members who have given proof of enthusiasm, with abnegation spirit for the Academy’s problems, can be nominated << Academy delegates >> by presidential decree, ratified by the board of directors.( so modified ex Del.C.P.n.6 of 15-02-79 & n.8 of 19-10-1979)
     The appointment  may not be reconfirmed and  will become definitive after the third year of fulfilment.
     The correspondent members will be chosen among the fellow workers who make the request  and satisfy the requirements of enrolment , upon mention and presentation of one or more national members.

Art. 24. –The Presidency’s Council  prepares the regulations for the implementation of the present statute and the provisional regulations. The document  is presented to be examined by the two Classes separately, and then  submitted to the vote of  the primary assembly.
     The first regulation will be drawn up and approved by the Presidency’s Council, composed of the organizing committee, which may  be modified in  whole and  its parts later,  by the Presidency’s Council elected by the assembly.  

 Art. 25. –The changes to the present statute  shall obtain  the favourable vote of the majority of the registered national members.
